GreenFleet After-school Boatbuilding Program

Six youths in GreenFleet’s after-school boatbuilding program launched two Bevin’s skiffs in April 2011.  They modified them from the original Joe Youcha design by raising the freeboard 1″.  The boats will be used in GreenFleet’s summer environmental education and stewardship program.

Builders are David Reid, Seamus Whoriskey and Louis Bistrong in a class taught by Jeff Lane assisted by Fritz Fuller at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum in Essex, Massachusetts. The Bevin's Skiff was built in three and a half days and is a great boat for the Essex River.

(10 days) For youth ages 12 and up. Students are guided by experienced teachers and volunteers and will build their own canoe, kayak, or Bevins Skiff. SEPHIRA

SEPHIRA is based on a St. Ayles Skiff and was built and turned into a mucial instrument to see if we can learn how to communicate with whales. We launched and raced her at Mystic Seaport, CT. and then took her to the First International St. Ayles Skiff Races in Ullapool Scotland.

Take as little or as long as needed to build your boat. Some boats will be completed prior to the 21st. This course is for adults or families with children ages 12 and up.
