I built this boat from a kit purchased from Chesapeake Light Craft. I have built 4 wood strip boats previously. I built a kayak, a canoe, a row boat and a sail boat. My saying is “never build your last boat”.
Emmanuel Alassoeur built this 14′ Périssoire from plans by François Sergent that appeared in 1944 in his book called Construction of Canoes and Kayaks. Emmanuel spent about four months building the hull, planking her with red cedar and building the deck from plywood.
George Eckley, and his sons Andrew and Aaron, wanted to kayak fishing, but found the typical 34" cockpit too small to work with their poles and tackle boxes. So they built their own kayaks. First they built ORIGINAL OAK, which is 14'6' long, with a 29' beam, and a 64" cockpit.

Pete McDonald and John Sherwood created this 12′ x 8′ pontoon boat to their own design, and called the BUCKEYE PADDLER. She is built with three pontoons, two with deep-v bottoms, the other flat bottomed. Two 30″ paddlewheels propel her through the lakes of eastern Ohio.

WU WEI is a Gloucester Light Dory recently relaunched and “reimagined” by Jim Thompson who rows her and fishes from her on Monterey Bay in California. In 1992, Thompson’s friend Swarup Wood followed plans by Dynamite Payson and Phil Bolger to build the 15′6″ dory and named her VINAYA.
