Flavio Simon had help from his wife, Marilia, and friends, Andy Jordan and AJ LeBlanc, in the construction of this 15'7" Whisp Skiff, TUPAN. Named after a Brazilian deity, TUPAN took nearly 200 hours of Flavio's time for construction.
Our Caledonia Yawl KATHLEEN was launched for the first time on May 1, 2015 at the Cedar Key Small Boat Meet.She is the 16th boat and 3 trimaran conversions that Kathie and I have built. Hull was built on used Hewes and Co molds from meranti marine ply, We spiled, patterned and fit each plank.
Rick Pope plans to row his Doug Hylan-designed peapod on every lake and pond in Vermont. He built the Beach Pea using just the articles Doug wrote in WoodenBoat magazines #133, 134, and 135.
Nick Riggio built the GERRYLU, a Steve Redmond Whisp design, from Meranti plywood, cypress wood, and mahogany. Nick was a student at Greg Rossel's WB School Fundamentals of Boatbuilding class in the summer of 2002. GERRYLU is 15'7" x 3'6" and is used on the lakes near Webster Groves, MO.
I built Huntington Harbor from free plans from Spira International. It was lots of fun and paddles great, looking forward to the next build.
CHIME (it’s a little dinghy) is a Chesapeake Light Craft Passagemaker Dinghy. The kit was a family gift, and building help came from all of our children and kids, and Captain Hook (our dog, who endured many hours on the garage floor watching epoxy dry).
Rob Caveney launched this glued-lapstrake plywood Annapolis Tandem Wherry in April this year following plans from Chesapeake Light Craft. The hull is 18′9″ long, Rob reports that,“As advertised, this boat is a real rocketship.
MINNIE is a modified David Stimson Ocean Pointer launched in July 2014. She was built over a period of 10-years, with many starts and stops due to other commitments. The modifications include stringers and engine beds, a 10.5″ deep keel and a different design for the center console.
I completed the Lumber Yard Skiff based on the plans I purchased from The WoodenBoat Store. It is constructed of cypress planking for its sidewalls, cedar boards are used for the deck, bottom, and benches. It is sealed with fiberglass matte and marine epoxy.
Mahogany inboard. New varnish & bottom paint. Newish 383 (500-hp). 50 mph. New upholstery.
Restored in ME by Jonathan Minott (seen in WB "Launchings" July/Aug 2009).
Partial restoration. Has rare Edson oscillating (worm) steering system.
