A classic double paddle solo canoe. This hull design has been built in many versions, from a simple light weight fast cruising canoe, to a full decked version of bookmatched walnut veneer.
The Northeaster Dory is small enough to be rowed singly, but big enough for tandem rowing with two adults. Even four adults have comfortable seating. Performance rowers may add a sliding seat.

Badger gained widespread fame as the subject of the book Voyaging On A Small Income. The concept of this design was to use the basic interior accommodation plan that worked so well on the 34′ Topsail Ketch Sunrise, which was evolved and improved on during the decade that I lived aboard her.

Simon found an older version of this boat back in the eighties and realized that its thousand-year-old design could be copied and preserved without too much difficulty. He measured it out in ’89 and Bill Nielsen lofted it and drew up the plans in ’91.
The classical hull shape of old wooden runabouts of the 70’s combines perfectly well with the use of marine plywood. This allows SILVER 55 to be in the same time elegant and simple to build.
