After years of assisting my husband, Wes, on numerous building projects (including two boat builds, one a WoodenBoat Family Build of a Bevin skiff in the late 90’s), it was time for a boat project of my own.
I signed on for the October 2013 CLC/WoodenBoat Skerry class with Wes as my assistant — a reversal of roles for us! We both had a great time building the Skerry hull at CLC’s Annapolis shop under the expert guidance of Geoff Kerr.
After Alex had jokingly told his seven-year-old granddaughter, Hannah, that she’d have to make a speech at the launch of his 15′ Chesapeake Light Craft Skerry last summer, she took him seriously and wrote a speech on her own. More than 60 people showed up at the christening and listened to Hannah read her speech, which is printed here as she wrote it.
