Lapstrake Boat Building
Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre

The Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre is proud to present our Fall program of boat building, Oct. 19-26, 2013. Our most well-known nationwide course, past courses have had folks participate from the East coast. Our eight-day workshop is led by professional shipwright, Eric Sandilands. Students will be encouraged to rotate through the various procedures including steam bending ribs, sanding, and riveting. This workshop promises to be a very full, challenging, and exciting week for the student who wants to learn the art of lapstrake. Students come away with the basic skills to undertake the construction or repair of diverse woodworking projects, and the skills gained are certainly not limited to small traditional boats. The boat building program is a hands-on approach focusing on traditional wooden boat construction. The week culminates with the launching of the boat, and a row in Cowichan Bay.

The workshop runs Saturday to Saturday, and is limited to maximum eight students per workshop. Space is limited, so reserve your spot to learn the wonderful skill of lapstrake technology.

Cost is $885 + GST, with a non-refundable $250 deposit required at time of registration. Be sure to contact us if you have any questions.
