I am looking for an experienced, but affordable boat builder in Southern California, preferably the LA area.

Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

No, not exactly a super yacht.

I am looking for someone to build a John Welsford Pathfinder, an 18-foot cruising dinghy. Construction details can be found here:

Thanks,

Robert

Don't think Ed has built any Welsford boats -- but that is a wonderful design! If you'd consider someone up here -

He's built at least two Redwings and many sail and oar boats, here's two from a row last Fall -

And he built this one that is a bit like a Pathfinder/Navigator and is now selling it -

Gee, Florence IS one beautiful boat, not unlike a Pathfinder. Hmm ...

Also, yes, SF would still work for me too. I'd prefer someone local, but my sense is that there is little or no appreciation - or interest - for wooden boats down here in LaLa land. :-(

So, how would I go about contacting Ed?

Thanks,

Robert

Check out Wayne Ettel in Wilmington. There was a story in WB about his business a few years back in issue 187. As I recall, he's not averse to owners helping out, if that's a consideration, and he does top notch work.

Good luck!

Rick Brown, who restored the original LFH Ketch "Bounty" and is now doing the restoration on the 60' Sewanhaka Schooner "Charmian" in Dana Point sometimes has time to work on other projects. Contact me privately for his address if you are interested.

Speaking of good 'uns, David G up in Oregon is a boatbuilder and woodworker from way back...he might be interested if you don't mind having it built that far from southern California.

Or did you find someone?

If you mean David Graybeal in Portland, I am actually already talking to him and he is my first choice right now.

Thanks anyway, though.
