hi just finished sanding down the wheelhouse of my cray boat and there is a couple of places where i need to fill in order to get a smooth finish. Here in Aust.we have a similar product to cpes called Everdure, should i give it a few coates of cpes first and then bog in the West Systems mixed with sawdust or should i apply the west systems mixture first. I was told that by putting on the cpes first it would seal the timber below and that epoxy to epoxy should stick well.
Oh yeh i almost forgot can you mix penetrol with redlead to get a smoother finish.

Don't know about Everdure, Mic, but the real cpes is available here through Tony Hunt in Sydney. Tony's a regular poster here, and has the sole Aussie distributorship.

When it comes to epoxy, my own preference is for BoatCraft Pacific's product (BoteCote, made in sunny Qld) -- easier mixing ratio, nicer smell, cheaper, altogether better stuff for us upside-downers than that North-East Googe they use in the States.

As long as you're using both these products, use the cpes first -- just keep brushing it on till the surface stays wet, then leave it for three or four days till the solvents all evaporate before doing anything else.

Hey mike i notice your from western port, because my boat's at Yaringa. Still want to know if i can mix Penetrol with redlead though?

If Everdure it is anything like CPES and you have your heart set on using it it should go on first. Once you put on WEST nothing is going to soak into the wood.

Interlux considers Everdure a primer to seal raw wood prior to painting. It specifically says not to us it on one part coatings.

Everdure is nothing more than epoxy with a thinning solvent, it has no relationship to CPES.
West over the top of Everdure is compatible as long as the solvents have dissipated.
