Coffee or cedar bucket. Not both.

Used to sometimes decades ago, but don't do big boat stuff anymore so no need. Quite a few ads out against the practice during the boating season...

Just make sure you dump it in international waters.

Use Mahogany, sheather the interior in lead, make the handles in Ebony, carve in fine gold strip the name of you yacht, and you will have a bucket more expensive than a Baby Black, which will be quite an achievement:D

I suppose while seated try to don't fail during, and after be sure nobody see you when you dump. Beside that I don't see other recommendations:)

Who use it? good question.

Yea, it's plastic, but it doesn't absorb anything, so "no chocolate mess!" Cheap, too!

Line with a plastic bag. "Bucket and chuck it!"

We use these if we are inside the 3 mile limit:

"For a no mess, easy cleanup of all portable toilet waste there is nothing better than the Double Doodie waste bags. With a double zip locking mechanism that ensures a tight, leak-proof seal and a tough outer bag that minimizes any chance of puncturing, the Double Doodie is an essential for any portable toilet use.

NOTE: Please dispose of all waste in an approved manner."

We found that the head area in our H28 "Bright Star" was too confined for any one bigger than a ten year old child. The area was just too tight for an adult to fit into. Following LFH"s advise and using the last Herreshoff Bucket that was made by Skipper and presented to us by his secretary Muriel Vaugne, we tore out the head and holding tank and resorted to the use of the Herreshoff Bucket which I fitted out to his original drawings shown in "The Complete Cruiser". An adjustable teak seat fits on the top and the use of "Wag Bags" in restricted areas allows moisture to be solidified and the contents deoderized. The bags can be, legaly, disposed of in any trash can or dumpster open to public use.

Actually, I once saw a stern pulpit designed with a "seat of ease" incorporated. It was a two rail affair with the top rail bowed out for a backrest. I never saw it in use, and wondered how it might work in a following sea (automatic bidet?), but it was a neat solution and "perfectly legal." Remember, the "no dumping" rules ONLY apply to "marine sanitary devices." If you don't have any fixed head plumbing that allows overboard discharge, you're perfectly legal.

A great roar of laughter has resulted in our office, as a result of my reading your comments out loud!

A Jim Brown Searunner 31 tri had the cockpit seats out over the wing structure and cushions for the cockpit...lift a cushion and there was a hole cut straight thru the wing for the head, drop the cushion and all was normal...direct plumbing.
