Bank Populaire is not a wooden boat but she's way cool. Sailed 907 mph in 24 hrs, that must be some sleigh ride. Hard for me even to imagine that. David www.boatsmithfl.com (http://www.boatsmithfl.com)

I can't imagine 37+ kts. for 24 hours either. On Damfino, I've gone half that fast for brief periods and it was a 'high pucker factor' experience.

At sea level Mach 1 is around 700 something MPH. So we have a trans Mach Sail boat? Some one call the dept of the Navy ;)

The thing that is so impressive to me is that the current absolute sailing speed record is only about 10 knots (about 20 percent) faster than what these big tris are capable of doing for extended periods. And those that are going at 50 knots or better are either hydrofoils (Hydroptere), asymetric one tack only boats (Vestas Sail Rocket), or kite boards.
These tris are able to carry a full crew, sail on both tacks, cross oceans, and keep a crew fed and warm for days on end, with only a 20-25 percent performance penalty compared to the all out speed machines.
