I've been developing my blasting skills with a number of media (mostly not sand-silica- which is now not favored for health reasons-silicosis)on a variety of material bases.

Have been pondering the idea of a media like bicarbonate or dried ice as a wooden boat paint stripper- no attempted trials yet- anybody had any experience in this area?

Will,

I have not used the above mentioned media for paint stripping, but I have used ground up corn as a media for stripping the old varnish, weather protecting finnish off of a log home. The corn being a softer media that the wood, worked extremly well at removing the old finnish and leaving the log surface clean and ready for the new finnish.

Used outside like this we left what used media there was after clean up to decompose.

Sorry for my spelling.

Dry ice blasting is great..... have seen it used on a timer hull to take off stockholm tar and felt.... worked and didn't destroy the grain but I wouldn't say it was the best.
as to paint and varnish should work a heck of a lot better (not as sticky).

Have also seen dry ice used on fiberglass to cut it back for pox.... it was just little spots but did a great job and the yard manager who don't like ne blasting was impressed as it left no medium to be got rid of.

I looked at getting in dry ice blasting here but it was the cost of the machine that put me off other than that a great system.... perfect for removing antifoul.
