Repeat from my post on the "People/Places" BB. I'm in LA and in need of a surveyor for my Atkins ketch. It's just for the usual insurance renewal process every 5 years so I'm looking for somebody who is smart enough about woodies to know we're working on a few things and willing to let the little things slide. Know what I mean?

Any recs are appreciated....

Good luck finding a surveyor who will willingly omit findings from his survey so you can get insurance.
A better approach would be to ask the surveyor to mention in his report that you are making repairs and will bring the boat up to code upon completion of the work. Usually the surveyor will be required to make a return trip to verify the work has been done.

Billy Fox out of San Diego. Don't have the firm name with me , but will post it for you. Very knowledgable and fair.

I have used Doug Emley, Marine Surveyors in SD 619-993-9800. Has been very helpful. He lives in the LA area and works all over Southern California.
