I have a "new-old-stock" 12 volt model 18HMR searchlite that has a bayonette type bulb socket, not a big sealed bulb. The info that I have does not tell me what bulb goes in the light. Does anyone know what bulb is correct for these old lights?

Try an automotive electrical outlet. Here in NZ those old type bulbs are still available.

Haven't been able to find an auto electrical outlet here, but that brings up a good point to start at, i.e., does anyone know the bulb size for an automotive search-light?

Thanks for any help.

I have a GE 'pathfinder 777 ' hand held spotlight that had a crappy switch and cloth-covered spiral cable, well knackered, as well as a similarly unfindable lamp this side of the pond.... upgraded the whole thing with new coiled cloth covered cable from an electric iron, a simple auto switch, but most usefully a 12 volt 50 watt Halogen domestic two pin lamp and push fit ceramic holder....Hey presto 'classic' 1950s light lives to work another day, and better than the original but looks identical.....

Was the 50 watt light bright enough for a boat search-light? Sounds like a good fix if it is bright enough.

50 watts is 50 watts... the average car headlight is 55-65 w on a 12 v system... I have had no problem with power but I only use it as a hand held see where I'm going up a an unknown creek kind of thing.. and I'm sure it's better than the original, though beam pattern is important... the old 'spot or flood ' argument i suppose..... but the conversion I did, as above ,seems to work as well as I want...
