The Sac/SF TSCA Chapter is hosting the annual Delta Meadows Row this Saturday. Launching by 10am from Wimpy's Marina in New Hope Landing near Walnut Grove.

This is a great row through some of the nicest scenery the Delta has to offer.

Photos from the 2006 row. Red marks the correct route, yellow my wanderings through the aptly-named Lost Slough -

Hope to see some of you out there tomorrow -- always room in several boats for crew.

...another local outing I'll have to enjoy vicariously through your pics. Take a bunch of them.

Yeah, not too many closer to Chez Bob than this one. Will do, although this section of the Moke looks better in person than on camera.

That's true, but until the Goat is ready - and the Jeep is running reliably - pics will have to do.

We made good speed on the flat water and windless sloughs, then took a break to allow some of the other boats to catch up. By my iPhone GPS software we averaged 3.3 knots against a faint ebb tide. Organizer John DeLapp searches for some of his lost kittens...

I was given these 10' carbon fiber oars by a neighbor, and after moving the sleeves up the looms a bit (and sourcing the very old collars to replace one), find that they work well on flat water. I brought along my 8' spruce spoon oars but found the longer ones significantly faster and more efficient. They also work well for propping the boat off the dock at an angle to allow room for other boats...

Lee Caldwell showed up late in Mona C, delayed by the Bay Bridge closure and work on Hwy 12.

The trip back was much slower against a brisk flood tide, I averaged around 2 knots over ground rowing as hard as I could with the 10' carbon fiber oars. We pulled out, sat on the porch and had beer and soft drinks, then everyone headed home - except Lee and I.

We went into nearby Locke and had dinner at Al the Wops, then met a woodworker who gave Lee a nice 10' 3x3 piece of spruce for spar-building.
