Just curious if the traditional transom portlights found on many historic ship and replicas, such as Lady Washington, below, have ever been effectively incorporated into a smaller design. Most I've seen have looked more like a caricature. :(

Bob Rosborough's 50-ft "Aquarius" and 46-ft "Minstral" designs did a pretty good job, IMHO. I can't find any pics on-line, but both are shown in Bob's book, "Confessions of a Boatbuilder"

Jay Benford's "Benford 30" has, in one of it's various configurations, sternlights. It's one of his "so salty it rusts your eyeballs just looking" designs, depending on how you build it.

looking back at old WB issues, and I was really admiring Sultana

Then I reread the specs, it's only 52ft long!

Brian,
Check my posting in the "oselvaren and Femboringen" thread. The instruction there get you to an alphabetical list of boats.
HILDRING and LOKE are "Afjordsvengbaten" - square sterned Nordland types. LOKE has stern windows for sure. HILDRING probably has but many of the links off her entry are not working, so I can't say for sure if she has them.
Those two are a bit smaller than SULTANA.
