I have a very nice tupperware dinghy, about 9 feet. After a couple of years of thought, here is what I would really like:

nine feet... it fits on my express roof.
a sailing, rowing, small small outboard boat
a fair amount of brightwork (pretty)
light, so plywood lapstrake comes to mind
reasonably easy to build...(time)
a classic design.. whitehallish
3 adults if possible but two comfortably
a sailing rig that stores in the boat.
something that sails fairly well.
The outboard is secondary to all other things

Thoughts? experience?

Iain Oughtred's 'Auk' could be built somewhat longer than this,

She rows well with 3 (I have had four aboard) but sailing is best a solo adventure. She tows fine too. Rick

I am building one of these as a tender for my sailboat. It meets your requirement. Is deep enough to handle some pretty rough water.

Consider the Monhegan Island Tender. Holds alot of weight.Has 3 seats, Its 9 ft and a proven stable little thing to stand up in & step out of onto a larger boat. I got the plans from The Carpenters Boatshop in ME

Express roof.... you're hauling this on deck then, not towing? Hence you want lightweight?

I could tow, but the boat is a 36 foot CC with twin 283's.... towing doesn't work at 20 miles an hour plus  :D and the drag doesn't help my gas mileage (yeah as if at 20 that makes any difference)

The express roof on these boats was built to support a flying bridge so weight is not a problem. It's the cleanest easiest place to store the dinghy. I also want a tender that's easy to get down from the roof by myself or with SWMBO.
