St. Lawrence Yawls--25 to 50 ft-

Design described in WB by Joel White--Nov/Dec 1985 issue,pg 117 ( also info in WB No. 8)--can anyone tell me more about the history of these beautiful 19th century boats(plumb stems,overhanging sterns, gaff-headed yawl rigs)--they were common along the lower St.Lawrence River. http://media5.hypernet.com/~dick/ubb/smile.gif

Agreed. These were very beautiful boats, and would probably adapt well as a trailerable pocket cruiser, since they had moderate draft. The WB # 8 article mentioned a small local museum in a small town on the St. Lawrence way up north of Montreal. Does anyone know if this museum ever opened or still exists? I wrote once, but no answer. Were the surviving boats ever saved and documented?

If you're going to build, may as well build something beautiful, like one of these.
