I want to build this boat for my Dad and was wondering if any of you have built it and can tell me how it turned out.

As soon as the weather breaks I'll be putting on the final coats of varnish and paint on Payson's 10.5 "Pointy Skiff". Boat was a piece of cake to build. Payson/Bolger boats have a reputation for being straight foward to build and quite functional in use. Some are even down right amazing! Some even look good. I have also built the 10.5' Pointy Skiff. My friend enjoyed it so much he built one.
I use mine as a tender and do mooring work. We clamped on a 4 h.p. outboard then jumped in. Three of us weighing in at 700lbs.+ bareley sat her on her waterline. I've had a 150lb. mushroom on the stern flat (1/2" ply) and 50' of 3/8" chain, mooring ball and pennant, plus a partner, and it worked wonderfully. I can stand in the chine and have to work to flip her over.
Don't bother with a bigger h.p. outboard, like Payson said, it won't matter. All you do is drag half the water in the bay behind you. Great boat for fishing in skinny water too.
I'm thinking of trying a sailing rig from a Snark (sunfish lateen type) along with a leeboard from the Bolger Nymph and see how it will sail.

Will you use the Sunfish mast? If so, how will it be held up (assuming that it is one of those sailboards you normally control by holding on to the wishbone). I am interested because it is fairly easy to pick up used sailboard rigs c/w with mast round here, and I was wondering if is is practical to adapt it to another boat. My initial instinct is that it's more trouble than it's worth.
What do you think?
