Hi,
I'm building a Core Sound 17 here in Brazil and in order to avoid the "post-building blues" I'd like to begin as soon as possible another project. I'm looking for a light displacement beach cruiser with overnight accommodations for a couple, a galley and a head. I'm dreaming with a self-standing cat ketch rigged boat, round bilged, schoal draft, strip-planked, cheap and beautiful boat...
Does anybody knows the FCS 24 from FCS Yacht Designs?
Thank you for your attention!

Ricardo,

The FCS 24 is a nice looking boat but at 4500 lbs, it is not a "light displacement beach cruiser" by any stretch. If you ever put it on the beach, it's likely to stay there until the next (hopefully) high tide. The Core Sound 17 is a light beach cruiser. A lightweight cat ketch with about the same creature comforts as the FCS would be B&B's Princess.

Tom,
You're right: 4500 pounds are a lot of pounds.
Princess would be perfect, but the fact is that after building the CS 17 I don't want to mess with brazilian made plywood anymore. The decent material goes exported and unless you buy an "industrial" quantity, you'll buy poor stuff. It's unbeliavable it happens in a country full of wonderful timber, but believe me, it's true. That's why I'm dreaming with strip planking and round bilges...

Hey guys,

Ricardo has an interesting problem here. There must be someone with some ideas on the forum. Lightweight cat-ketch beach cruiser, some permanent creature comforts and strip built.

Hi Ricardo

There is more Brazilian in the Woodenboat forum!
Two designes that can assist your specifications are:
Antonio Dias "Sirena" design. You can find in http://www.diasdesign.com
And Karl Stambaught with the" Windward" series look at http://www.cmdboats.com
About Brasilian Ply, after some bad experiences with some local stores, I am trying the Berneck manufacturers in Paraná that had good indications of known builders.
I am quoting prices for the purchase of the marine ply for the deck construction of my next project, a Storm 26 designed by Maurice Griffiths.
Boa Sorte!!!

Hi Marcio,

Glad to know there's another brazilian building boats other then the usual we are used to see in our marinas.
Berneck produces good stuff but it's almost impossible to get in small amounts. And besides, it's all amazon cedar material inside and out. I'm not an ecological activist but it seems too much to me to harvest a noble tree and make plywood with it.
What a nice project is the Storm 26!Congratulations.
Before the CS 17 I was in love with Sirena but then I was looking for something I could easily transport by road to the beach ( I'm three hours from the next decent salt water front}. Now I'm looking something bigger and confortable ( my wife, you know). But not so big, so I can pull her out of the water by myself for maintenance, bottom painting (in the boat, not my wife) etc

Send me a message if you want to write in "brasileiro" and tell me more about your boatbuilding experiences or share with us in English in this forum. I feel a little isolated here in Campinas. My neighbours thinks I'm nuts etc.
All the best and good luck!
