I know I am getting little ahead of the seasons here but Christmas is just around the corner and I need to get started. I have a tradition with my daughter in that I make her a Christmas present each year. Being a December baby and having a father that’s a boat nut, her first present was a cradle boat, but she has seen a range of things from pull toys to rocking horses. It’s interesting to note some of the most memorable presents have been the simplest ones, I think there’s a lesson here, which I haven't learned :)
My daughter will be nine this December and I am thinking it I would fun to build her a small boat. I would like to get it started before Christmas, but finish it with her help over the winter. My requirements are:
1. easy to row and/or sail
2. light weight and drying out not a problem. I would like to be able to keep her on the foredeck of the mother ship. This also limit overall length to about 8’
3. Needs to be good looking and fitting of a young woman.
I am currently thinking about
o 7 Ft Clinker Pram Dinghy by Paul Gartside
o Ian Oughtred’s Acorn skiff
o Nutshell Pram
I would love to hear your thoughts, recommendation, and ideas on the topic.
