I just found a bow of an old boat about 6' long on a beach on Lake Michigan. We would like to find out how old it is and possable what it was used as. I plan to restore the bow as well as I can. The 6' piece of hull is built with a 4"/4"
stem with 2"/3" ribs, 2"/4" inside the ribs. The hul is planket with 1"/4" that is screwed very often to the ribs. The boat was well built. It was very heavy for it size (waterloged). Just a guess would put the boat 30' long or so. If anyone can help i would appreciate it. I can give more detail if there are any replies.
Thank You Nick

Photos, photos, photos. Might have been carved out of the bottom by an ice jam and dumped there. Or it could be something recent. Years ago there was an old woodie used as a sailing trainer here in Detroit that got caught out in a storm with loss of life. The boat sank and was raised a month later. It looked like it had been down there for years. The paint was worn off by the rocks and sand on the bottom and it was holed.

Hmm. Couldn't have been built THAT well now, could it?
