Does anyone have knowledge of this school which offers a degree in Naval Architecture via online. They are based in Eastport, Maine. Their website is at www.macnaughtongroup.com. (http://www.macnaughtongroup.com.)

Their info online seems very good but I am trying to understand how well the quality might be of learning on your own outside of a classroom just using the internet. I am a very self taught type of person so this may work for me but I am trying to get some feedback on their program from someone who is either enrolled or knows someone who is.

thanks

I think you may find some folks who are currently enrolled over here;

This is a hotly debated topic on www.boatdesign.net (http://www.boatdesign.net) - click on 'Forum' then click on 'Education'. A number of students of Macnaughton and Westlawn discuss their experiences. Interestingly, there are also contributions from those trained in the various Universities (naval architects and aeronautical engineers).

The question on everyone's lips is 'can I get a job with this training?'. some have said that they work as boat-builders and use their design skills in this work. The University-trained engineers/archictecs seem to say that the most jobs are in the oil industry-marine structures department...

Mcnaughton has a discussion forum as well - my question was quickly answered. Very approachable.

Tad-

Thanks for the tip about the boatdesign. net forum. I found your comments about the work that a junior draftsman would do (if he were to work for you, as an a example) most helpful.
