Gidday all... Well finally there has been movement at the station and the imagestation albums I created awhile back for the designs of Al Mason have been updated... with a listing of designs and by type along with a few more scans of a couple of designs...
album 1 (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291486295)
album 2 (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291498197)
Now I have done this in answer to what may be questions as to why?... because to me Al was probably one of the more unrecognised of the old time designers of yore... and my belief that these designs of sturdy ships and boats should have a place and be seen so occasionally I will post a pic of one of them as others do...
Im not resticting myself to just Al here people... If you have or know of old designs of designers that have gone over the bar {or not} and would like to see them shown here then send them in a pdf or jpeg file to me at my email address in the profile... and I will post them here on the forum.
Such as Crowingsheild {yes please!!} Fife {ooohhh yeah!} Herroshoeff {sp? but yeppers!} or any of others you can think of  ... including any Aussie designers of particular interest are designs of Pearl Luggers as Im becoming a definant LuggerNut!
My only condition for doing so is the right to drool and gawk and sigh... FIRST! :D

Dingo, looks like your doggy on page 19. Otherwise, nice designs. Where do we get 'em?

Shane, I just replyed to your reply on the plywood boat topic.
I like your albums. This is the first chance I've had to look at Al's work. He designed some very nice looking boats. The Sailboats particularly. When I decided to build the Vacationer I knew it would just be a warm-up for the blue water cruiser I really wanted. The Vacationer is a fast build to get me on the water fast so I can spend 3,4 or maybe 5 years building the boat I would live on. I see 3 or 4 of Al's designs that look interesting.
I'll have to send a note off to Anita and see how much study plans are. That Mason 33 looks promising......or the 38.....or 41....maybe the 45. I can tell I'm going to have a hard time sleeping tonight. smile.gif

Shane thank you for putting that all together.
I'm in the process of building Bart.
I have never seen pictures of all those designs only discriptions. Some of the groups of designs are showing a little blurry on my computer. If you could do me a favor Shane and tell me the name of two of the powerboat designs it would be great.
On the page headed Yacht designs by group second from the left third row and Small outboard designs second from the left top row. If you could let me know the names of those two I can do some research and ask Anita for more info.
Thank you Shane and Anita for all the work and effort.and Thank you to all the patient folks who have helped me with my greenhorn questions.

Thanks fellas...

Check your email mate but I think the first is Blackfish and the second scud... I will go back and upload the full size scan to imagestation without reduction which sometimes works clear as a bell and others blurry... no worries ;)

The biggest problem is that there are sooooooo flamin many really excellent designs out there!!! Its mind boggling and confusing to say the least... BBCrowningsheild would be right up there in my book simply beautifull work... but as you look you will be drawn for many reasons toward what your after.. for me its taken awhile a bit over 2 years and I think Im finally nearly there... that is unless someone else throws a loop at me and then Im done again!!! tongue.gif
With regard to Als work for smaller boat I simply love Sørkust and have the plans {Ta muchly Anita!! } am over the moon in love with the Cogge Ketch and Independance and for a fast daysailer/racer Manana would be hard to beat... sigh...
But now Ive seen some of his other designs my curiosity is up above the leaning tower of pizza!! ... For instance the Wilbo 42 is gorgeous and reminiscent of the Aussie designed Halversons which Im begining to see a major appreciation of this type of boat {age must be catching up with me? :D }...and his Belle and Islander34 are right up there for houseboats but the wonder is can either be changed to accept wood rather than steel? {I simply loathe welding} and what processes would one have to go through to have the scantlings offsets etc changed?
Anyway the longer it takes and more I see the worse I become... so 9 times out of 10 now I try not to look!!! ...yeah right and I can resist HA!!
WWheeler mate the plans are available from Anita the email address is on the front page of the album (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291498197) or in her forum profile
By the way... Ive found Anita to be a wonderful lady quick to email respond and very very helpful with all my annoying questions! shes been a real education to me about California and its rich history which Ive always been curious about... quite aside from the information regarding boats designers and her fathers work!! So I dont hessitate to direct you to her with your questions.
Anyway its done for everyones benifit as far as Im conserned... and I get first drool rights!! :D
Take it easy

What a treat. Thanks for putting this together, Shane.
One of the designs (#19) is a bit of a dog, though smile.gif .
And Anita...thanks for making this stuff available. I spent a happy half hour going over these designs last night. Your father's work lives on.

Shane,
Thank you for posting the pages. It's sad that imagestation no longer allows public viewing without becoming a member. I liked the old policy much better. I find their new policy very suspect.
