It does indeed look very similar to the dhow I rode to/from work on in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

A guess: the rudder is for under power and the oar is for under sail.

Looks more like a kind of pinky than a dhow. I think of dhows as having a forefoot deeper than the heel.

I like the sound of these folk. Maybe I'll sail over and invite myself in some day.
