I have a 17hp 2cylinder diesel in my shed that wont be going in my trimaran and now find myself thinking of what sort of hull a little engine like this would be good for.
I am thinking towards a powerboat rather than as a yacht auxiliary.
Ideas please?

How about this one: John Atkin's "Little Effort", (http://www.boat-links.com/Atkinco/Cruisers/LittleEffort.html)a long skinny low-powered launch. The Atkins, father and son, know more about designing good simple flat-bottomed boats than almost anyone. It was designed for something like an Atomic-4, which he said would give 18 mph. You wouldn't get that with your diesel, but this would be a very nice boat at 12 mph, and you wouldn't have to buy fuel very often.

There are a lot of other Atkin designs here (http://www.boat-links.com/Atkinco/index.html) which would work well with that motor. I'm very fond of their powerboats.

Thanks, I have added that to my favorites and will look at the site later. 12mph is better than I was hoping, I was thinking of the 7knots or so of an auxiliary yacht.
