Mates! Ive finally cracked that bloody ply price barrier here in Bunbury!!! Found a salvage yard that has shiteloads of the stuff coming in shortly in both 12mm and 9mm... I bought 10 sheets of each for the princely sum of $800 today!!! 45per sheet for the 12mm and 35per for the 9mm bloody ripsnorter eh! Ive put me order in for as much as he can get at those prices

He had about 20 of the 12mm and I went carefully through the stack and took the absolute best and same with the 9mm only he only had 14 sheets so I ended up with the best he had which is to say bloody near on perfect!... I left the others due to slits and such but would use them if nothin else was coming

I cant tell you what they are as not one of them are stamped with anything! all are 5ply no voids no markings of any sort no filled knot holes beautiful looking plys both sides... will do some tests tomorrow on how they stand up but mates Im stoked

So TonyH ol son could you PLEASE send me a copy of the Valgerda plans mate??? huh? please? huh mate?

Thank you kindly!

Todd mate I cant for the life of me remember the thread where you redesigned the sailplan for her... If I recall rightly you drew up a few different ones but the one that suited her best was a sorta square sail toward the centre of her... damn this memory!!

Anyways Todd ol cobber ol pal ol buddy do yer reckon yer could whack em up for me here so I can save and print them or zap em in an email to me? (email may be different to the profile? shajoa@southwest.com.au)

Her highness has decided I can do without a shed after all since their prices have skyrocketted over the last few months {and Ive blown my budget as usual  ) so Im gettin another 40ft sea container and am going to make one out of the 2 of them with a 15ft x 40ft area between them covered with second hand corrigated iron and beams ... will work out cheeper and easier to do than tryin to get a shed... At present I cant see half my tools for the gear out of the house! So another is definantly needed!

Abuildin I shall be right soon!!

Shane, There are several square(ish) versions in my files. If you need larger, better quality drawings with measurements, etc. let me know and I can dig around in the other computer and find them and e-mail them to you as PDF files, which are easier to read.

This one may be the same, just done with stripes, but I'd have to scale it out to check.

This one is interesting, but I believe you would have to dip it or lower and re-hoist it on every tack which would be a real pain for recreational sailing.

I also still have the drawings for all the sprits, lugs, etc. in case you need any of them.

Mate your a bloody legend!! That top one was the one I was thinking about and if memory serves you thought that would work for her best? And the pic shows the lack of lead keel making her keel a straight run

Please send away!! PDF is fine mate! Cheers

Done. Don't automatically take my word though that it won't still need that skeg-like shoal keel with the 106 lb. chunk of lead stuck in it. When I drew all these plans I was more interested in the relationships between the original 72 sq. ft. spritsail rig and the new versions. I have a whole bunch of various Valgerda and faering-based hulls drawn-up with differing keel/skeg/ballast combinations and sometimes am not very picky about which underbody is used to plan out a replacement rig. Probably a good question for one of our highly paid yacht designers and the guys with more squaresail experience. I suppose there are always the traditional ballasting methods - like a bunch of rocks in the bottom, but can't really picture a fun day out sailing for the hoons if they have to sit on a pile of dead fish....

Mate, they're on the way. Photocopies of Atkin's article on Valgerda in MotorBoating Vol. 33, that is!

Thanks fellas!

Todd got the pdf file mate cheers!... Ive been thinking about that weight thing... and thinking about it I think if one were to make up lead ingots and place them at the same locations as the plan shows them to be but inside the bilge as such embed them in say that epoxy stuff wouldnt that work about the same? sure there would be about a 4in difference in the keel depth but the weight would be there?

Mind here Im workin from memory with regard that keel I think from what I can remember it was abouto 40in long by 2 inches wide?... thats what the keel was I believe sided 2in? gawd come on Aussie post!!

Anyway thats what my present thinking goes like... make the ingots and stick them under the floor should work?? Anyway will have a good long gander when they arrive.

Tony your a bloody legend bloke! Cheers
