Can anyone help me with any information about this boat? It is 13' long and 44" wide it has oak frames and is lapstraked planked with cedar that is clenched nailed. It has the Thompson bros. nameplate with Peshtigo WI on it. I don't think it was built in the early 50's because they used plywood planks then and they did not offer a 13' rowboat. The boat is in excellent condition with just one broken rib and just needs refinishing. The boat may have been part of a rental fleet on Lake Leelanau up here in northern Michigan. My son is researching the boat and refinishing it as a senior project so any info would be appreciated.

Double-ended (1907-1928) or with a transom (1907-1943) ?

As I mentioned in your posting at www.thompsondockside.com, (http://www.thompsondockside.com,) how about some pictures??? This woud be extremely helpful. You can email them directly to me: thompsonboat@aol.com

Thompson Bros. Boat did offer a "lower" quality lapstrake boat in the early 1950s with clinch nail fastening.

In the 1950 and 1951 catalogs they say the "clinkers" could be made with plywood planking OR with solid wood.

Is there a hull ID stamped into the wood of the transom, inside the boat?

When Thompson lists a boat as being 14 ft. in length, this is the measurement taken along the gunwale. So, the centerine length is less than 14 ft. As an example, the 16 ft. Sea Coaster had a centerline length of about 15'-2".
