Design Q’s
If any of you have seen “Dolphins” with Robin Williams. It is an “In the Wild” documentary filmed in Bahamas. It is great stuff.
Anyway, I keep coming back to it periodically looking for information on the Trimaran that was briefly featured. The center hull was glass (lexan/plexi/whatever)for sitting in and viewing underwater.
I tried contacting the research group in Bahamas couple of years ago and inquired about the construction (who/how/specs) but have had no response.
Questions:
(1) anyone have any info on the boat itself/designer/design?
(2) a source of lexan or acrylic skin covering?
(3) and how to calculate the thickness required for the hulls skins? ( I am assuming, from what I could view in the video that this was a wood framing.)
(4) I am also assuming that even with a simple dory hull design that this boat might be, that the main hull would be a very narrow V to allow it to sit low in water for viewing and that the AMA’s would be rather beefy to support main hull. I also do not expect this to be a good sailer but good for it’s intended use.
(5) Given the clarity of so many areas in Bahamas and Carib, I am surprised not to see more of these type boats out and about.
?????????????????????????????????????
This has been bugging me for a couple years now and I decided that for a new year's resolution and with the help of this forum, I might be able to resolve Q's on how to construct one.
Haapy New Year to all, even considering the state of the world, hopefully the distress on the planet will bottom out soon and better days ahead!
