Im about to embark on building a Wharram Tiki46 in the next few months and am after a small tender I can make quickly and easily. It will be used mainly to gain the shore when in harbour and to go up rivers and creeks exploring the Northwest Coast of West Australia.

As the boat will be built in ply sheets this would be an ideal medium as the added sheets will not cause any difficulties.

If possible we would like to build a couple of these due to family size so they should be able to carry 4 or 5 people in each, it would be great if they could be sailed as well as rowed as this would be ideal. They should be preferrably about 6 to 8ft in length no more than 10ft.. width is somewhat irrelevant at this stage. I Had thought of one at 8ft and another at 10ft, so one can be stored under the other on deck would this be possible?

The transom should be good enough to carry a small outboard but this isnt a pre-requisite as sail and oar is fine.

Any ideas of location of plans for this type of tender?
Thanks for any information offered

Hey Wild Dingo,
You mijght want to check out Jacques Mertan's designs at:

http://www.bateau.com/

He has several that might fit your needs. This is his V10 dinghy:

He also has this in a 12' version.

You also might want to look at his 11' nesting dinghy (FB-11).

These are all stich and glue. He has designs all the way from 7' on up.

How 'bout a Bolger Rubens Nymph (just like a regular Nymph but 12" wider). Tows well, carries a surprising load, rows easily if not fast, easy to build, not bad looking. I used one of these for a tender for a few years on SF Bay. See:

Hope this works, but wanted to let you see one that is from the 50's, that could be done in ply easily enough. If you want to know more contact me through my email. I have more on this 6 footer.

Cross your fingers,....

I'm glad you chose the Wharram, I think you would be happy with it. I enjoyed my Tiki 26 a lot.
For a dinghy, I would recomend looking at verious Bolger designs. After building a Nymph, and helping with an Eligent Punt, I would go with the punt. It is much quicker to build, and more stable. Also, there is a really nice 9 1/2 foot pram in the book "Building Classic Small Craft" by John Gardener, Which we had when I was a kid. Maybe a pair of Eligent Punts, stacked Dory style, and the 9 1/2 foot pram on top? With a large crew, there is never two many dinghys.
