Has anyone used this rig. I'm wondering how it really sails? I am considering doing this along with the kaya to get it all done at once, but it just doesn't look like it would be worth it. Any opinions? Thanks, Nick.

I haven't sailed with the CLC rig, but I did sail a WindRider up in Prince William Sound a couple years ago. It was a blast. Very easy to sail and very stable. My wife, who had never sailed before picked it up without any difficulty. We were able to weave in and out of the growlers (small iceburgs) around Columbia Glacier with ease.
The CLC rig on a Mill Creek would essentialy be the same boat in plywood instead of plastic.

Nick,
I built a CLC Mill Creek and a sailrig using outriggers based on their plans. Here's a link to the article I wrote about it for Duckworks magazine:

SWIFTWOOD is based on that design.
If you choose to build it stick to the plans
If I did I would have been done by now.

It's not the nicest looking sailplan and mast that I've ever seen, but there is no reason that it shouldn't work pretty well. I wouldn't expect it to out-point many of the other boats on the lake and it should take a while to learn the proper rhythm for getting it to tack reasonably efficiently (it will never be a great boat for situations where you are forced to do a lot of tacking) but it should go like hell on a reach and be a lot of fun.

The SailRig on a kayak points quite well, but the catch is the boat is so light that unless the water is very calm, you're better off pointing a little less and moving faster. Chop will tend to stop you if you're trying to pinch.
The Double or Triple with a SailRig is like a bus! Loads of room, you go 4kt without knowing you're moving, and you can stand on the boat if you want.
I've sailed 'em both. Being more of a sailor than a kayaker I think they're pretty cool.
Disclaimer: I work for CLC now, though I didn't when I first sailed one of these.
