Now that the class association in the US is being restarted I am considering building an OK Dinghy. I know the OK was originally designed for amatuer builders, but unlike my boat-repairing skills, my boat-building skills are untried. I would appreciate any insights, advice, etc., especially from anyone who has experience with building an OK Dinghy.

Thanks.

If you build it with modern stitch and glue and epoxy. It shouldnt be to tricky. The boat is rather easy to build. And great fun to sail

Here is a link to a danish guy who fix an old OK

The OK Dinghy is a good race training boat that's about midway in size between the Laser and the Finn. You should proably weigh between 140-175 lbs. to enoy it and find it comfortable.

A friend of mine built one in the sixties and about all I remember of the building process was that he had some difficulty making sure the aft and forward compartments were watertight, and he found that the cockpit/deck/sheer edges were uncomfortable when hiking out. (The updated cockpit design may have a rolled edge now, IIRC)

He also had a tough time building the mast with its grooved slot for the sail luffrope. You might try checking ebay for a rig and sail. I saw an OK Dinghy for sale there once.

Thanks for the replies Hans and rbgarr. Hans, the website you posted was very helpful. rbgarr, thanks for your insights as well. I probably won't build my own spars. The OK Dinghy International Association approved carbon masts last year, and the guy who is leading the class reorganization efforts in the US has obtained a supplier for them.
