In the '50's (Late, it may have even been early '60's)a local boatbuilder designer built Herreshoffs ( LFH)sailing machine complete with canting keel! either 48 or 50 ft IIRC.
How it went was irrelevant because of course, it had no one to race against. The canting keel was not legal or accepted. What is Herreshoff's Sailing Machine? I can't find any reference to it anywhere.

As long as I got you here, do you still have the drawings of a certain schooner rigged boat last seen here almost two years ago?

Paul ,I can't remember which of LFH's books its in.
Common Sense of Yacht Design ? or.....ummmm. I'll have a look. Someone else here will know I bet.
The Boats name in NZ is Fiery Cross by Jim Young. If you have been following the canting keel boats you'll probably know that the designers of the 'new' boats... the w86's from a couple a five years ago have or had a legal dispute with Maximus the Kiwi 100 footer.
Part of the argument/mix is that kiwis have had a canting keel boat since the 50's/ 60's( although most would not say thats she was a successful boat. Whether that's because she didn't go well enough or whether she had no one to play with I can't comment because I've never seen her go ( with the canting keel). As a hull she's rapid. The thing motors at 10 knots!

Schoooner eh . Love schooooners.might still have the pic... might not. depends
:D

I just had a look at my imagestation and can't see it.. must be there somewhere though.

I just searched the old thread. Ye Gods, how embarrasing ,I can't believe I did that.I'm bad bad bad. redface.gif
It almost looks like a whole album is missing. quite a few photos not there.

I'm trying to remember details of the sailing machine.

Canoe stern sloop(no sprit), skinny, wing mast maybe, big wing luff foil for the jib, canting keel.
