Does anyone know the contact details for William Garden. I am trying to find out more about building the Eel in Lapstrake and would welcome his thoughts/advise.

Thanks,
Adrian

Mr. Garden is retired, his plans have been shipped off to Mystic Seaport, and from what I've heard it is not easy to approach him. Even when he was actively working, he apparently was not interested in speaking with amateur builders unless he was convinced that they were "serious" about building one of his boats.

That said, the only way I know of trying to reach him is through Maynard Bray at WB, who is handling requests for his plans. Here's the info from an earlier thread about getting a copy of Mr. Garden's plans.

Garden has asked that any requests for plans be directed through Maynard Bray at WoodenBoat. You can write him at WoodenBoat, P.O. Box 78, Brooklin, ME 04616.

Or, send me an e-mail at <tom@woodenboat.com> with your address, phone number, etc., and I will forward it to Maynard.

By the way, I'm no expert, but I imagine it would be fairly simple to adapt Eel to lapstrake construction, as the curves are relatively easy and there are no hollows.

Thanks for the information I will email Woodenboat to see if they have any ideas about building an Eel in Lapstrake, esp. in view that they suggest an alternate construction in Lapstrake.I haven't seen Wholeboat.net before, I check it out.
I am thinking I may buy the plans and then approach a few "experts" to see if they can suggest suitable scantling advise. Anyone with a set of plans like to offer any advise on a lapstrake build?
