What is the best website or book that has plans/designs for small(18'-22') inexpensive(less than $1000 total) sailboat kits. I would like to start building one for myself.
Thanks for the help.

For starters...
instant boats (http://www.instantboats.com/)
However, your choices are almost as broad as the Pacific.

Jeremy: From everything I've read, $1,000 is a pretty tight budget for the size boat you have in mind. You might take a good look at how you plan to use the boat, and whether you need a boat that size. Other things being equal (i.e. the construction method and the quality of the materials) the materials for a 20-foot boat could easily cost 40% to 50% more than the materials for a 16-footer of similar proportions.

That said: If you're looking for a daysailer, you might consider the "HC SKIFF," an 18-foot sailing skiff by Jim Michalak. It's based on the lines of a traditional 19th century sharpie skiff, and I think it's one of Jim's nicer-looking designs. Jim's plans are sold here: www.duckworksmagazine.com/store/plans/jim/michalak.htm (http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/store/plans/jim/michalak.htm)

I really like bateau.com. I have built several of this guy's boats, and I am building one right now. Inexpensive, good plans, good technical support. Here's a link if you're interested:

Correct. Those are the cheapest "proper" boats ever designed. With such a tight budget though, the choices are not so broad: a 18'-22' is not a dinghy... Actually, only Zephyr fits the bill:

and it seems doable within that budget, provided a polytarp sail is used.
