I had a chance today to look briefly at a copy of the 1975 edition of Gilpin's book "The Good Little Ship". In the last paragraph of the book (part apparently added later by Mrs. Gilpin) there are references to three "New Generation" boats refined from the original Munroe concepts of boat design. Two of these were apparently Crocker-built boats, and the third built by Stanley Grodeski for an owner in Baldwin NY.
I know there has been some difficulty in finding the precise plans of Munroe designs, the originals having been destroyed in a hurricane. Does anyone know if the plans for any of the "New Generation" boats are available.
I was told today that the "Carib", an original boat still exists. Does anyone know if these 3 later "New Generation" boats might still be alive?
Regards, Marco

Jingo, one of Crockers boats definately is alive and well, also for sale out of Manchester, Ma. Both Crocker's plans and Pete Culler's are available. You probably have to speak to the Crockers for the S.S. Crocker plans though I believe they are now ar the Peabody Museum in Salem. Culler's plans may have finally made it to Mystic. Also the lines for Carib do exist in the plans for the Alice.

The third boat, Gardaloo, was built by Stanley Grodeski in 1958-59 and sailed by the Baldwin family of Babylon, NY on the great south bay until 1970 when they moved. Stanley built several hundred boats in his lifetime and considered Gardaloo to be one of his best. If anyone knows the whereabouts of this boat she would be worth a good look.

My name is Laird Baldwin. For some crazy reason I was just doing a search for "Gardaloo" and came across this reference to the Crocker-designed gaff-rigged ketch my dad had built for us by Stanley Grodeski when we lived in Babylon. My mother and father have departed and so, very sadly, has that very wonderful boat. They moved, with her, to St. Michaels Maryland and, when my mother became ill they decided to sell Gardaloo to a woman in Key West. My father later told me that this woman's lover took the boat, set sail for South America and made it about as far as Hispanola. He was caught in a storm and Gardaloo went down. She would have been around for many years. Very Sad. Laird Baldwin, Wytheville VA

All three of Crocker's designs: "Macaw", "Jingo", and "Dorothy" are available from Crockers Boatyard for $300. They will email you study plans plus pix if you request them. Dorothy is my favorite. These designs are about 36 Feet LOD and have a steel keelson that has to be cast from a positive built with wood. I am planning on getting plans developed for a version of the smaller Munroe Presto type "Utilis" or similar to "Melody".
