Does anyone have a copy of this that they can let me know what kind of boat this is, before I go and order the back issue of it? It appears to be a very nice wood boat from the thumbnail on the WB Store site...It almost looks like a Barnegat Sneakbox or something similar?

Thanks!

Eric

Eric,
It is a custom-built boat, and is a very nice piece of work for a very fussy customer. The boat was designed and built by the author of the article, Peter Lentini, a resident of Seattle. Order the back issue, it's a good read.

I will have to order the back issue, but another quick question...Would it be possible to build a fly fishing boat from plans for a Sneak Box or a Railbird Skiff? Would they be stable enough?

Thanks;

Eric

Peter Lentini designed this boat as well as built it.

About two years or so ago, I did the varnish work on a rebuild of the boat. The boat's trailer had a roller fall off. The boat was riding on top of that stanchion. Ended up punching a hole in three planks. (ouch!!) Peter had to replace a fair run of planking to get butt staggers. I stripped and revarnished the outside of boat. The inside only needed a couple more coats.

A lot of work. Original owner still has it.

It's in Rebecca Whitman's "Brightwork" book though she had nothing to do with it. Page 57.

For a flyfishing boat, the McGinnis Bateau in Gardner's More Building Classic Small Craft caught my eye.
According to the text, McGinnis was a highly regarded yacht designer whose passion was flyfishing up in Maine, so I think that's a pretty good pedigree.
The design is for plywood over seam batten construction. I am working up a skin on frame version, about halfway done.
Has anyone out there made this boat - any comments?

I thought about the McInnis too, it seems to have a good reputation, especially when one line in the book says something about carrying 600 pounds, 3 guys and all of them fly casting out of the boat at the same time. That may be the way to go for me and building a fly fishing boat. Perhaps the interior arrangement could be made a little different. Also, I wonder what it would look like being strip/epoxy built.
