Hello folks,

I would just like to share my first finished boat project with you.

But i don't know how, the pictures are on kodakgallery, and to share i need email-adresses, so this is not a good sharepoint. Any ideas on where to upload pictures so everybody can see them ?

George

from Norm Messinger Instructions for posting pictures

Photo to be posted must be on the web and in a site that allows cross posting. Many Forum users use www.imagestation.com (http://www.imagestation.com) . This is a free site which seems to have unlimited storage, large picture size, and unlimited albums.

Upload your pictures to ImageStation and create your albums or leave the pics in the in box as you wish.
Pictures in ImageStation are displayed in three sizes: thumbnail, display and original. Left click on the thumbnail brings up the display photo, about 640 bits X 400 or so. A left click on the display photo brings up the photo in the original size you uploaded. Forget this one, except in rare cases which I cannot explain it cannot be cross linked. So....

Left click on the thumbnail to show the display version.

Right click on this picture.

Left click "Properties".

Highlight the Address [URL] and copy it (Ctrl/C).

Now go to The Forum and prepare your new message.
Write what you want as a preamble to your picture, then:

Below the message area is a button, "IMAGE". Left click it.

Paste the URL you copied above into the block displayed.
Note that the block contains http already highlighted. Just paste without doing any thing else so you don't get http twice.

Add what ever additional text you wish to add after the URL of the picture is displayed.

Click on the "Preview Post" button to confirm that what you want us to see will appear, then close the window.

Click the "Add Reply" button and standby for responses.

George,
Nice boat.
Nice pictures.
But no name. Who designed it? What kind of paddling do you anticipate?
Remember, stay away from those Rhein Maidens.

Some people really know how to do a beautiful job. Well done. I still keep wondering how it is done but I am learning I think.

Nice job smile.gif Looks great smile.gif It appears you even took the time and effort to use the same lumber to match grain for the hatch cover's ,sweet

Thank you all for the appreciation, but i still have a lot to learn ;)

This is 'just' a stitch and glue boat (i think some say you can't get nice result with this kind of technique :D ) The kayak is a CLC chesapeake 16. It has been build using 4mm okoume bruynzeel hechthout. Stained first with an almost black walnut stain, sanded most of it of and then stained with a mix of mahogany and walnut stain. This filled the pores with the black stain giving more accent to the grain. It actually was a suprise it turned out nice, but the best things are most of the time things that happen although not planned. And ofcourse it has been glassed. :D Stripping is actually just painted on. I wanted to fit veneer, but i was a little scared to start routing in a fine looking piece at the time. And i wanted a boat to still put in the water, although some people discourage me to do so tongue.gif

At the moment i'm working on my second small boat, the glen-l zip o/b runabout. I already have some ideas of how to make it 'a showpiece'.
Lots of veneer :D

And about occuptation 'still looking'. This kind of craft is impossible over here to live from. Or wooden boats for that matter. I'll just continue with building things i would like to own myself and put my heart and sould in them and maybe who knows...

And we all know yer actually 89 years old and begun that wee kayak to yer own design when you were 16 dont we!! ;) years in the makin! :D CLC be damned thats flamingorgeolishus!! WELL DONE!!!

Thats an interesting method of gettin the color you got George... turned out beuwdyful... gonna have to give it a whirl when I start

I betcha we dont get that "bruynzeel hechthout" ply here... and hell I dont want to think about how much it would set a bloke back for just one sheet let alone enough for even a kayak!!

But shes a real beuwdy... so next pics will be of you paddling around your area right???

It's expensive ply, but the best. It set me back some 175 euros. But i think it's worth it.

I actually have a question concerning staining. How do you stain 2 adjoining surfaces without the stain creeping under the masking tape. I've tried several different ways (masking tape, scoring the wood, sealing with epoxy) but everytime i had a little creep, especially if the line took a curve. If you stain parallel to the grain it's not a problem, but how wants to stain in straight lines :D

See, i have still lots to learn :D
