Okay look heres the thing... Im bored right... sick of chasing the missus about the house etc etc... so Ive started wandering again... in my blood you see :D

Anyway... after reading George Beuhlers book Im sorta hankering to have a gander at one of his designs in the flesh so to speak... the Achimedes, 43' on deck 13'6 beam and 6' draft double masted schooner... yeah Im stuck on schooners just now and yes I should have just stopped but well...

Im wondering if anyone knows of some site that may have some photos of this design just out of curiosity of course! :D

It's partly a matter of taste of course, but it's also a matter of design and performance: I don't think Murray Peterson and son Bill have much to worry about when you match a Coaster against an Archimedes on any water in any weather.

The pretty ones are more work, Shane, but you know they're well worth it...

:D :D I could see you in one of them Donn!!

No after having read the book and seen the lines and other interesting stuff for Archie as Ive come to call this one that interests... I wondered if anyone had heard of or see one and maybe tooken some pics

I emailed George hisself from the site the other day and he reckons hes heard of one built in the UK one in Germany and one in the US and doesnt know if he has any pics but will have a look in the boxes under the house... somewhere.. sometime... sooner or later... Nice bloke George... freindly and helpfull... typical really of woodenboat folks! ;)

So Alan I takes it that the Coaster is still bestest from your viewpoint??... aye matey from thisun too... but I was bored see and this little lady sorta wiggled her little transome at me and shimmied her sails and well I thought it cant hurt to see whats out there about her now is there?... No personally I cant see either Murray or Bill having anything to worry about either that Coaster design is simply drop dead gorgeous isnt she!!! ... but Archie is interesting dontcha think?

Hi Shane,
Just wondering, have you considered any of those Indonesian sailing boats? Like the Buginese pinisi schooners? They have lots of character in my opinion.

I've got Buehler's Backyard Boatbuilding, and Archimedes was my "dream project" for several years. Since then, I got married and had a hoon ;) and another on the way, discovered that what I really wanted to be when I grew up was Daddy smile.gif , and thus have rescaled my boatbuilding/boat-owning ambitions to suit.

I still like Buehler's philosophy--a lot--and his designs look sturdy and unpretentious to my eye. My "dream project" now is his 29' Uncle Sam, but a lot of things would have to break juuuust right for me to be able to tackle that. I'd be perfectly happy to have a daysailer that would carry 6 in comfort, plus a pirogue (and a tidal marsh to paddle it in).

Keep 'em dreaming down there,

Ken

Hi Shane,
Go to www.worldvoyagers.com (http://www.worldvoyagers.com) and go through the arcives. This is a great website and has tons of info. about building a Buehler based design. The builder, Phil Shelton, is a professional builder who apprenticed to his grandfather and has built numerous boats of all types of wood constuction up to a 65' sawn frame schooner. He chose to build his version of a Buehler design due to cost and speed of building. He is presently in OZ on his world voyage. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Roger
