Thoughts on "Trim" as a trailer sailer? Would a mast tabernacle be feasible?
Anyone know where I can find more info (not much luck searching the web)

17 feet, 8 1/2 inches over all; 17 feet on the water line, 7 feet, 6 inches in breadth, and 1 foot, 1 1/2 inches draft to the bottom of the skeg.
Sounds about perfect for a trailer sailer. I see no problem with a mast tabernacle works perfect with that single rigging. Go for it - the world can always use more pretty cat boats ;)

Much as I like catboats, and as important and influence Atkin was in my life, I've got to say that is not one of his best looking designs. It doesn't look too bad on paper but catboats are wide. The bow is a lot farther away than the middle and the transom corners when you look at them from the side. Perspective makes them seem lower than they are which is why catboats have such high bows. This one will look rather lifeless in 3D and be missing that famous catboat "smile".
Compare with Fenwick Williams 18 footer, a much prettier catboat with that classic profile imho.

There are other boats of his with this 'flatter' sheer - was it something to do with the 'mode' or style of the 1930/40/50's?

You know... I couldn't quite place what it was that seemed "off" to me. It must be the sheer. Granted, Trim is also narrow for a catboat, but I can see where the sheer will still appear flat in 3d. Thanks for the input.

Does the original construction plan call for carvel planking? That would not work out well for a trailer boat.
She is actually on the narrow side for a cat, about 6" narrower than the Cape Cod Cat from Cape Code Shipbuilding that is about the same length, itself not the beamiest of cats. I agree the sheer seems rather flat.
For myself, I would go for Ted Brewer's Cape Cod Bay design. It's a bit bigger and ply planked, but I've always had a weakness for V-bottom boats.
Unfortunately, you will probably end up with an outboard on a transom bracket. It would be worth a Nobel Prize for the person who invents a method of small sailboat propulsion that will make all the OB's disappear.
