I have a 91 3/4 ton full size GM van I am considering "camperising", can any one recomend a good book or site for this? I would like about a 20' unit c/w shower etc. We realize every thing will need to be beefed up and am considering converting to propane.

Gert...believe it or not, I found van conversion plans, the last time I was browsing the Glen-L (http://www.glen-l.com/campers/van-conversion.html) website. Van conversion plans from a boat designer, what could be more appropriate?
The also have an extensive list (http://www.glen-l.com/campers/suppliers.html) of suppliers.

Gert -
Take a look at this site (http://www.mrsharkey.com/busbarn/busbarn.htm). Lots of photos of old hippie house trucks and the like and reviews of books about them as well.

Talk about misleading, I thought you were talking about a modern version of a contagesa waggon with sails, or reversing a boat on it's trailer, rigging it and steering with the dolly wheel! How about it Norm?

I've looked at commercial camper vans, and back when I had my Ford I thought about making a camper out of it.
My advice is to keep it dead simple. Insulate and panel. Porta potty, no shower, water in jugs, cots and folding chairs/table rather than built ins. That way the space is flexible. Maybe a sea swing single burner propane burner for cooking. A loose basin rather than a sink and a holding tank. The commercial camper vans, except when they put a wider longer body on, try to cram everthing in to poor effect. Hot and cold water, oven, furnace, flush toilet, shower. Problem is, all of it ends up too small to be very comfortable/useful.
My 2 cents.
