If you're considering a glued lap design, you might want to take a look at a site I just posted on building an Ian Oughtred "Wee Rob."

I can't say enough about the plans or the design. Clear, detailed, and beautiful. Ian is doing great things and I hope he keeps cranking out the boats.

This web site should be attached to the FAQs. It shows how it should be done, PERIOD, CASE CLOSED. The boat begins to takes its beauty and shape by a proper jig set up, with good wood, and a good working height with proper lighting to do it right, with proper detail to the initial scarfs. I give this workmanship and site a 10 plus. Lisa S, this looks like your type of workmanship, also. Are you by any chance close to this boat? This looks like your next project. ;)

Mr. Kessinger,

Wonderful job on the Wee Rob as well as the website.

However, I hate to be the one to break this news to you but I feel compelled to do so. If you can build such a splendid Wee Rob, you have certainly exhibited the skill required to build a Fiddlehead. When the urge strikes to build another boat, and it inevitably will, wade right in and build yourself a Fiddlehead. That way you can share the joy of silent waterborne motivation with a friend.

Thank You for sharing.

Nice site. You have a typo though. Second word, second paragraph. "it" instead of "I"

To all you kind people:

I caught another typo: My hero "Ian" Oughtred actually spells his name "Iain."

Geez, how embarassing.

Paul:

I hate to tell you this but there is also a silent "x" in his last name. :D

On the "Why This Design" page there is a photo of Harry with two fiddleheads. Can any body tell more about the top one (painted green)? What size is it? Where can I get plans or see more pictures of it? Thanks.

Stunning boat by the way Paul. I'm finishing up a fairly botched version of a glued lapstrake from Walter Simmons right now and your pics have almost got me wanting to go back and make another right away, but I'm planning a semi-dory first. May I suggest a gallery page on your web site with TONS more pics? ;)

On the Wee Rob that I built my son I found out that I could, after the first 3 planks on each side take the boat off the molds when the glue had dried and clean up easily as I went. Then put it back again, only held with 2 screws to blocks attached to molds 3 and 9. It was strong enough to hold its shape.

Paul, what a beautiful job you have done! Thank you for sharing.

I, too, have been inspired by Harry Bryan's work. I hate to admit this, but I built 'Fiddlehead' using eppoxy and plywood.
I added four stations for moulds and set the jig up using Tom Hill's 'Ultralight Boatbuilding' directions/method. A lovely canoe that turns heads wherever it goes resulted.
