I recently happened on a picture of a fishing boat in the January issue of National Fisherman. It was featured as the boat of the month, The name of the boat is the Brian D out of Seattle . I would like to find out if there is a place where I could find plans for some of the fishing boats built in the 40`s 50` and 60`s in the Pacific Northwest.
Thanks in advance

During the late 40's through 1960's, Monk-designed salmon boats were very popular in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. I saw the inside of his shop in Tacoma, WA in the 60's and admired the beautiful lines in his wood construction.

You ought to check-out the web site for Tacoma's chamber of commerce; or "cruise" the search engines with your browser... you'll no doubt find some interesting stuff.

Try the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle, or the Wooden Boat Foundation in Port Townsend for starters. Seems to me I've run across some books devoted to the topic in my wanderings. The Center might steer you to them, and Armchair Sailor might be helpful.

Also try the Maritime museum in Victoria, BC. They have an extensive resource of info.

William Garden also designed a lot of trollers and other fish boats. I know some of them are in his books of designs.

If you actually are interested in owning one, come on up to the Northwest as I think they are probably one of the best deals in boat per dollar. Too bad it's due to the slide of the fish stocks and thus the fisherman.

Good luck
