Well Jim it is nice to have a boat but In Croatia is still much less problem to get one than to maintain her. The price of the wooden ships in Croatia are much lover then new plastic ones (I think in richer countries situation is different) but material (as paint vernise epoxy good wood ?.) is still very expensive for our standard also we are just building the cult of wooden classic ships making first regattas meetings ect. But I hope I learn something from this forum.I have found it yesterday and I can?t stop reading .
BTW this photo had to be in my first topic but I hope I?ll find out something more about the designer (even he is German and maybe not known in the states)

I can tell you one thing about this boat... It's a sail boat! :D Beautiful boat, perhaps one of our German friends will have some more useful information.

Hey,
for materials (varnish or epoxy, wouldnt do that for wood) try Italy, if you are on the north you have Venice or Trieste right there, if you are on the south there is Ancona, they might be somewhat less expensive than in Croatia.

Thanks for advice actually in Croatia thinks are getting better every day but as you have sead in Italy are lots of specialized shops for wooden ships with everything you need to keep your ship in good shape but I must admit that in Croatia special on island Murter place Betina there are probably one of the best wooden ship builders in Europe they do thinks traditionally way we call them ?kalafati? and lots of Italians use their services so for now my only problem is mony but with time that whant be a problem i hope

You should be proud! That is a very pretty boat you have.

Materials like paint and epoxy are expensive the world over. I would imaging that this year I will spend around $500 just on paint and seam filler.

I have already spent similar sum of many and all I am doing is keeping her living season by season but I have to do some mayor renovations like deck .Deck is not teak but some kind of red arish pitch in her yang ages that has look fantastic something like mahogany but it is not like teak and 50 year are behind her so deck has to be renewed , I think that I ll do it with teak and that is a big expand, than I have a problem because some of her frames are not from wood but from iron I don?t know why but in those days they had opinion that it is great idea but now that is a problem for me because every year I have a problem with rust and and i am going to replacethose frames with wood or inox and there is interier. She was 6 person boat and now I would like to make her 4 person boat with bigger toilet, kitchen and big central salon also by rebuilding interior I ll make her much faster even she is very fast lady , because in those days materials were very massive and heavy. Otherwise she is in great condsion her hull is like now all of her strakes are from one peace and for 11,5 m long ship that is rear atleast in Croatia ,she is totally waterproof , two year ago I had change engine and I was very sad about it because it was made in USA Universal motor from 1936 but there was no cure for him and now she is powered by new18 hp Nani diesel.
I would like to hear your opinion on this matter : I am thinking of roll fore sail but I don?t know would it be petty would she lost old-timer spirit. Sorry for long post but I do not know how to stop when I start to think about what to do .

Maritimo, Dont change that beautiful interior! change the bunks to enlarge if nessacary, but by all means keep the look of that interior! As for water tightness, does the deck leak?, if not dont replace it,unitl you feel it nessacary. By the way , great boat and welcome to world of woodenboats, good luck ! stephen millett-see www.woodwater.com (http://www.woodwater.com)
