In the past, I've seen a couple of small photos of Atkin's 'Ninigret' and #169 has a profile drawing. I really like the looks and the concept.

Does anyone have more material on the boat they could share? Photos, more drawings, construction method and material?

A search of the archives turned up very little.

Thanks!

FWIW, Freedom Boat Works of Baraboo, Wisconsin, produces the Ninigret as a more-or-less standard model in glued-lap plywood. They had a very lovely example at the Wooden Boat Show in Grand Haven.

I don't think they have a web site, though.

I wish I had thought about this last week when I was only 20 or so miles away in Portage, WI! I'll keep that in mind when I'm there again in a couple of weeks.

Hey John, I'd be interested in hearing a report if you go to Baraboo. I guess one of these days when I head to Madison to visit my dad I should head to Baraboo, as well.

What's in Portage, anyway?

If I get over there, I'll be sure to report.

I'm looking for a design to trailer/power cruise around the San Juan Island, and have been focussing on the 22' Bartender and Ninagret.

Years ago I saved a copy of an article about a Ninagret; I think was from Small Boat Journal. Anyone else remember that and/or have a copy of the article?

Casting about the net, I found this:

Which is more than I had before! Unfortunately the resolution leaves something to be desired. Anyone have nay photos they could either point me to or share?

There is an article with photos on Ninigret in John Atkin's Practical Small Boat Designs (International Marine/Ragged Mountain Press; ASIN 0877421609, November 1983). It's out of print but readily available used and not uncommon in libraries. Freedom Boat Works also had a color brochure on the boat; I'll send you mine if can find it. I have always liked Ninigret, although when I build a powerboat it's more likely to be Atkin's "Russel R." design, or perhaps "Little Effort", a slightly larger inboard version. These resemble Ninigret but are narrower and flat-bottomed, and use much less HP.

Well, John, you're almost to my place when you get to Baraboo. You might as well stop in. :D

Actually, I'm planning on going to I. Falls week after next... Don't know if I'll start driving in MSP or fly all the way to the border. If I'm in the area with a couple of hours to kill, I'll look you up!

I found a copy of "Practical Small Boat Designs" on half.com for $17, just bought it.

So John, you're headed to Frostbite Falls? Are you working on an iceboat design ;) ?

I'm about an hour and a half SSE of MSP. Hope you have a good trip. Bring warm clothes.

Tony is a real nice person and his wife too, makes a nice boat. Say "Hi!" if you go.
