Joel White and Ian Oughtred have done a great deal in the past coupla decades to open up small dinghy building and sailing to an incredible number of novices and pros alike.
A friendly rivalry between myself and a friend has developed. We have off and on sailed /raced his Shellback and my Acorn 10 footers more or less. He also has about 80 lbs. ballast on me, most else being equal.
To weather it seems that he has the advantage, yet as things crack off a bit I start to catch up and will eventually pass on a down wind run.
I think the vanging/flattening of the balance lug surpasses the standing lug on this particular venue. I'm a bit of an Acorn fan and am biased, yet I believe I'd still bet on the Acorn.Any experience thoughts on this?
