I dont understand this ghoolish fascination with Halloween and all it implies... I find it evil and wrong on many levels

I am also one of those people who will when confronted with kids in ghoolish costume at my door saying "trick or treat" tell the buggars to get home where they flamin well belong and stop knockin on strangers doors!... had a stand up arguement with a ignoramus of a so called "responsible parent" last year over just this... for cripes sake we teach our kids not to talk to strangers not to go with strangers not to accept gifts or sweets from strangers... and yet we encourage them to go up to a strangers home knock on their door and take food from them?!! :eek: bloody insanity! :mad:

And yes Im also one of them people who object strongly to my kids sittin on some blokes knee at christmas time just cause hes in a stupid red suit with a white bloody beard!... Hes a flamin stranger people!... I just dont get either one!... protect your kids? how? by getting them dressed up so even you have trouble recognising them then send them out on the street in the evening to get lollies from strangers by knocking on strangers doors? or have their pics taken sittin on some blokes knee just cause hes dressed up as santa?... total and utter bullshite! :mad:

but dont let me stop you... have fun mate :rolleyes:

++++++++++++++++++++
Edited to add... I knew something would get me going... Halloween does it EVERY TIME! without fail it gets my dander up :rolleyes: ah well have a great party Joe best to the missus and young Tess :cool:

UM Shane Simma down now ya hear ;) Its just a party. As for the trick or treating up here on da mountain no kids come to our spooky house, no kids roam around up here at all. The first year we we spooked the house up real good and sat and waited for all the kids to come a calling. Not a one showed up :( and I was left consuming bags and bags of candy till my teeth nearly rotted out of my head :D That's one of the reason why we throw a party. The kids all run around and play and spook each other while the parents all have a good time.

The town throws a big Halloween Parade down main Street and some amazing creative people in this town work a long time on some very elaborate costumes. Its is very exciting to see what people do. We all walk down Main St. to the water, a march commonly referred to as "scooping the loop" Its great and binds the town as a community we all talk and laugh and point and go ooh and ahhh. All the local merchants decorate there store fronts and hot chocolate and candy is given out at the Gazebo at the end.

As for the actually Halloween trick or treating there is no parent I know of any kid that dosnt join in with them and some even dress up and FOLLOW them from house to house with flashlights ( and maybe some mace ;) ) In town there is one long street which has become the Halloween St. Parrot St. is closed down and police block each end so no cars go through. Each house tries to out do the other in design and theme. It is a fun controlled night.

Now shane if I was in my younger days and you ran me off with out a treat well then you would be a target for a trick.
recipe for a trick:
1 dozen eggs
4 rolls of TP
2 Cans of shaving cream :D :D

Im cool Joe... just cant understant it thats all and yes it iritates the heck out of me... but I do realize its a time honored tradition in the US... still doesnt make sence but thats fine yous Americans are like that at times :D

Now partys on the other hand I unnastan... think up a reason for a party and get to it! :D weirdest I ever experienced was in Halls Creek where the challenge was which house had the biggest cockroaches :eek: {oh everyhouse in Halls Creek has cockroaches thats just comes with the territory :rolleyes: }... winner throws the party! Should have seen some of them building humungus cockroaches out of beer bottles cans and even one mob one year used kegs {boyfriend was the manager of one of the pubs... cheats!}

As I said enjoy mate! :cool:

Looks like a great party, Joe. Down here Halloween is maybe not quite the party that it seems to be up where you live. I know that I have seen a lot more decoration in Maine than I have ever seen at home.

If I had to guess I would give it two reasons:1.It's hot. It's 85 degrees at 5-6pm every night. Not conducive to getting dressed up and wearing a mask. 2. The church communities frown on it mightily. This is a personal preference thing. I believe in God, and I attend His church, but I don't see the harm in a little kid dressing up like Catwoman or whatever. It's like anything else in life when you are dealing with your kids, it's up to you to watch after them.

Have a great time at your shindig. If it was just a little more fall-like here. Since my kids are grown we don't really do Halloween any more. Sure, we put out the treats, but that's about it. The last time that I did a jack-o-lantern it sat out in the heat and rotted on the front porch. Oh, well. Maybe it'll cool off by Thanksgiving.
