If you can get them read the latest issues of either Classic Boats or Water Craft, both British publications. They carry articles on the 2002 Great Glen Raid. You'll get a lot of info. Loch Ness is only about 1000 ft. deep. Hope thats enough for your boat.

I just got Water Craft #35 today. Those Raids sound great. They've done them in Portugal, Finland and Scotland(3 times) and have Raids planned for Ireland and Sweden.
If you haven't heard of The Great Glen Raid it's a race, by sail and oar, up the Caledonian Canal from Fort William to Inverness with 40 boats less than 27 feet long. Some camp out and some stay on a "dorm barge" they bring along and some stay in local Inns.
So anyway, how about organizing something like that here in Maine? Anyone? Please.
The same issue has four articles on sailing canoes also.
Steven
I'd love to hear about your trip. Is it too big to post here?

Raids might be fun- but its really a shame to drag a herd of people with you when you row through some of the most tranquil lochs on earth. You will miss the quiet splendor of Scotland. I can provide the names/locations of overnight stops-spaced about every 15 miles through the Calidonian canal. These mostly small B&B's but very nice. We did this about 3 years ago.
