Actually 'twas Saturday that I made the big 54 but I made a three day weekend of it. One of those cruises where despite the best laid plans everything went exactly right.
Mary Ellen & I added a friend, Susan my kayak buddy, and her niece to the crew so we had 4 kayaks as well as the dink along - about 160' LOA is all boats put end to end.
Sailed in company to Edgartown. Nice dinner afloat as this year's corn is wonderful. A bit of gossip and a bit of paddeling.
Breakfast in town with me not only agreeing to go ashore, and ashore in a town, but even by launch. Susan & her niece had to take the ferry back and MaryEllen & I went back to Grana for a serene sail around to Vinyard Haven. As we entered Holmes Hole a lovely classic yawl got shots of our underwater art. Agreed to see the prints at the Moffett Cup in September.
The plan was to see the final show of "The Complete Works of William Shakespere, Abridged" at 1700 in the Tashmoo Amphitheater.
Another depraved choise to take a launch in - I'm going soft and depraved and the Vinyard Haven launch which is notoriously hard to reach was right there to take us in early. Even more depraved ,, we chose to grab a cab even though it's only a 1/2 hour walk and we had plenty of time . . .
Or so we thought till we got there an hour early and found the show about to start but there was still space for two more close in stage right.
Those how have caught this show will know how marvelous it is. It's making the rounds of the better community theaters so keep alert.
A quiet walk back from 'Shmoo to Holmes Hole punctuated by a somewhat tipsey biker chick - more like biker matron - stopped in traffic leaning over to remark on my faded breton red pants and her biker guy in front telling her to get her foot out and neither Mary Ellen nor myself believing that this is happening as the big hog tipped in slow motion over on its side . . .
And sunset with cold beef, cheese & fruit with libation of choise.
Monday morning we got up a bit late and wandered into the Black Dog (despite the local issues - felt a bit like a scab) again by launch and remarkably enough in with minimal delay. The menue is still good.
Wandered over to see what was up with Nat & Ross and on to see the Amistad.
And then a lovely romp back to Hyannis with both tide and wind.
Despite some cavillier lack of correct planning and generally goofing off, everything went smoothly and on time. Somedays we're just plain blessed.
Fair winds.
