I realize that this area is call People and Places but I always assumed that it was people and places related to wooden boats. Lately it seems to have turned into the obituary column. I don't mean to be overly picky, but there was a non-boat related section started, specifically to handle general chit-chat that didn't relate to the main subject of the forum. Maybe that would be a better place for such announcements.

Hmmm, I thought the decision a while back was that the People and Places section would be used for People and Places in general, and not just boat related, becuase when it was just boat related there was very little activity here. If you look at the list of current topics there are a few RIP's but there are also lots of other topics. As long as we keep politics and nasty controversy out of this section I'm happy with the way things are here.

So that's my opinion on the matter...

Whats the diff? This section could use a few more posts anyway. Death is a way of life for some. :D

And what about us poor folk who don't want to be bothered with the bilge?

Regardless of how it's handled, it'd be nice to see a little more discretion. For example, the "RIP Strom Thurmond" discussion got way out of hand. You'd think everyone would realize by now that ANY discussion relating to religion or politics belongs in the bilge -- including obits for political figures from any point on the spectrum. Experience has shown again and again that there are too many folks on the forum who can't or won't discuss those subjects politely. A pity.
