Well, most of you have not heard from me in a VERY VERY long time. I took some off work today to do some more work on the boat. While i was running 5 powertools and a heater in the garage i blew a breaker and went it to the house to switch it back on. When i switched it, there must of been a short somewhere, and i was greeted by many volts of electricity. Anyway for some damn reason, this awakened a part of my brain which made me think of you guys. ( don't ask... my brain is wierd)
So, i thought maybe since spring is soon to arrive, we might want to consider our next meeting. I know it is early, but there is not harm in discussing it. Also, this would be a great time to catch up on where we are in our projects ( if we have not given up and burnt them)
i hate the winter, i grew up in Florida, so having a 3 month break from any outside gatherings is torture for me. But i am determined and try my hardest in the cool weather to get some work done. I live on a mountain outside chattanooga so belive it or not, our weather is useually 10 degrees colder than the valley. The other night we got down to
-3 degrees and despite my little space heater's hard work, it would not get over freezing in the garage the next day.
Here is a pic of my slow slow slow progress so far. It may not seem like i have done much... but the eye can be decieving. The chines and sheers are on and i have been fairing for a long time. i finaly got a power planer and i don't know how i maganged to live without one. Just to remind you, i am building a 15 foot Glen-L outboard Runabout.

So, everyone post some updates...
and start thinking about this spring's get-to-gether
Rob
Long time no hear Rob. I was just wondering about you the other day. Here is a link to my photos so you can see for yourself some of the progress (or lack thereof).

Wayne Williams came buy the other day and helped me flip the weekender and I've been stripping my canoe. I've also thought about making some mast hoops with my new steam box.
We might want to try and get together before spring. Ain't to sure I'll be here in the spring (or even next week). The drums of war seem to be calling and who knows when we will have to go.

The other day I flew over Lake Jocassee in the NW part of South Carolina and thought it might be a nice place to have a messabout. It sure looks inviting from the air. Chuck?

Lake Jocassee is pretty. Never seen it from the air but have been on it. I was thinking Charleston or Savanah. Charleston hosts the Southeastern Wildlife Expo Feb. 14-16 and I've never been to Savanah. Rob you started this, what do you think?

We could definately make Savannah, and maybe Charleston, but I don't know about the stretch for the Tennessee folks.
BTW Rob, you have been gone for a bit. How about an updated picture in your signature block? Hint hint...

South Car does seem a little far away considering most of us are from Tn. But i would be happy to meet half way. Any other suggestions?
Hey margo and Dave... is this icon better? Heh.
Why don't we try and plan a lunch one day while we are planning the spring weekend?
Jeff you have to bring the sun fly. That worked out great last time.
Haven't heard from Wayne of Rancocas or Oyster yet.
Whatcha say to lunch one day soon?

I live about an hour north of Chattanooga (10 west of Sweetwater) and would like to join the luncheon. My schedule is flexible (except for Sundays). Let me know here and/or by e-mail. I don't have a boat (yet), but I may be able to help out with my airplane (Archer II).
Thanks,
John

I doubt that I'll be able to make it.
A very large part of my retirement funds were/are tied up in the stock market, and you all know what has happened to the stock market over the last few years.
We're OK. My pension covers our regular expenses, but we don't have much left over for "fun", so I'm going back to work. No more law enforcement! Something completely different - I'm going to be driving a truck. So, I expect I'll be out of town a lot.

I'm here and willin'.
Rob I can see there's been a lot of work done. Pretty shape.
As for me, I bought a racing canoe after christmas. It's not wood, it's carbon fiber. It's a little tippy so with the weather as cold as it is I hung it up in the garage for awhile. I'm gonna stick with the boat I'm familiar with until the water warms up a little. I dress to survive a capsize but it still wouldn't be any fun.
Otherwise, The home renovation is substantially complete and converting the garage to a shop now trumps the honeydo list. I'm building a shed next to the garage to move all the yard and garden paraphenalia out.
John I saw somewhere else that several of your designs are getting built. Congratulations.
Rancocas, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It hit us too of course but we're not in the same stage of life so it didn't have the same immediate effect. Please stay in touch and let us know about your travels.

Can't make the lunch, but let me know on the other spring fling. Ready, willing and able, as of now, anyway.
Sorry to hear about your retirement stuff. The economy has hit us pretty hard also.
Hey Wayne you ready to take that saw off of my hands?
How about next Wed. for lunch? That would be the 5th of Feb.

Would like to join you Thursday if my electricians are finished with the panel upgrade.
Can you give me directions to T-Bones? I'll be on I-75 S coming from the north (Sweetwater/Athens).
Thanks,
John
P.S.
Any chance we could sit in no smoking (I'm hypersensitive)?
Okay John I will try with the directions. First I will start with the address. T-Bones is at the corner of Chestnut & Main (right across from the stadium parking lot). I believe the street number is 1415 Chestnut.
What you want to do is come down 75 south, When you get to the Atlanta/Nashville split go toward Nashville. The next split you get to will be Nashville/Downtown (or 27 North). Take the downtown split. After the split you will take the Main street exit. Take a left on Main Street and go up about 200 yards and T-Bones will be on your left.
When you get in the resturant I will probably be wearing my maroon Wooden Boat hat.
Chad
p.s. I will try to get us in the non-smoking section.
For those of you who make it Thursday and have never meet me, here is a photo of me and my hat.

Rob, I was rereading your first post and couldn't help imagining your predicament...laying flat on your back, your whole life passing before your eyes while you wait patiently for your heart to restart and you think of us? Man are you weird! smile.gif

Report, please??? Pictures? Chad you are falling down on the job.
Just got back in from lunch. It was a very good meeting with Jeff, John, JOhn, & Wayne and of course me. Wayne had to leave early for a meeting but we stayed a little while and had a good lunch. Sorry you others couldn't make it. Let me know when you can and we will get together.
Sorry Mike no photos of lunch

Too bad that you couldn't make it, Oyster. You should have chartered an airplane!
Good lunch. Met the "New Guy", another John. Welcome to him. After Wayne had to leave, the rest us stayed for another 2 hours or so, just talking about Wayne. LOL (not really, Wayne)
On my way home from Chattanooga, I made stops at three different lumber/hardware stores, looking to buy a pair of stair stringers. I have redesigned and rebuilt the loft in my barn, and need a stairs to go up about 8 feet. I can't believe that I can't find ready made stair stringers long enough to reach that high! All I can find is little short ones, and none of the stores will make me a pair on special order. So, tomorrow I'll just have to make them myself. I've made them before, so I know how, but I sure would prefer to just buy them.
Pouring down rain all day. Higher elevations in the mountains are getting some snow. We may get some snow around my house tonight, but temperatures are supposed to rise into the 40's (F) tomorrow, so any snow won't last long.

I thought about driving but home life has changed right now. Wife out of town, Travis sick, and first of the year survival her in the six months county. Glad you guys had a great time. I am hoping someone will organize the spring fling. We will be ready for a break come warmer weather. I have a new float for the trip.

Well, I'd like to meet you folks as well. A spring fling sounds like good fun. No doubt that here in Charleston is a good place for a meet, but Jocassee is nice as well, plus it's somewhat central to TN, GA, NC, and SC. Anyone thought of Lake Norman near Charlotte?

BPolk- have you figured out a place to live yet? Are you moving here permanently or temp? Let me know if you need any info on the area...
